Developers continue to move in on the city of Philadelphia slowly changing the heart and soul of what the City of Brotherly Love represents. These communities have been home to black and brown families for generations only to have wealthy developers use their status to wipe away their existence and decide what is best for a community they have no ties to other than financial gain.
Most working-class families in West Philadelphia have a combined income of $50,000 a yr or less with developers building “low-income” homes starting at $150,000 and upwards of $300,000 for two and three-bedroom homes with an ever-growing economy that does not match the income level in which employers are paying out to their employees so, if I am not getting paid more but my expenses continue to increase, how can one save enough to even sit at the table to discuss purchase options?
So, what can you do you say? First, start by educating yourself on what is going on in your community and how new development affects your bottom line. Second, find out where your local state representatives office is in your area to find out how you can contact them directly to discuss your concerns and needs. Lastly, sign the petition below to show developers that their presence is not needed but community support is.
Let’s stand and fight for our community!
