We had two great volunteer groups support us in our garden efforts this weekend past. The first group ACAP (Accounting Career Awareness Program) introduces high school students interested in a business career to accounting, finance, economics, and management through a program taught by college faculty.
The second group Philadelphia Futures provides high school students in low-income families with the tools, resources and opportunities necessary to be successful in college or in their life careers.
Both groups were a pleasure to work with during our work days and the students were very focused in helping us accomplish our goals for the community gardens. These organizations are a necessary asset to our communities and the success of their futures along with ours because let’s face it, many programs like this were not around when I was growing up. Now that programs like this have been in place, it gives our youth that necessary support that most low-income families can not financially handle, leaving our youth with not many options. These organizations give new hope for their future success.
